Nitrogen Filters
We are currently evaluating in our plant of powdered milk, if we still need to add filters for our Nitrogen lines. Nitrogen is an important process aide in the system to displace oxygen and put the oxygen levels at specified limits (02 speeds up the degradation of some of the vitamins). There have been two schools of thought: One is the need to have filters (0.3 u) to ensure that the N2 entering and having product contact is clean. The other is since N2's purity is 99% and inert, the risk of bacteriological contaminination is almost nil. But we have to take note that N2 passes through several pipes as well before reaching into the system.
Would appreciate inputs from you guys, be it in your experiences or current studies/literature. Thanks!
