Head Covers in Cold Environments: Guidance Needed
How do food businesses manage cold environments and head coverings (wooly hat / beanie) (i.e. underneath the disposable mobcap?).
hi :)
We ask staff to cover hairs under net then they can put wool hats / H&S hats and then a mobcap.
;)
We request that balaclavas and knit caps be covered with the hairnet.
There was a minor concern about the fuzzies on knit caps, but more importantly was how often the knit caps were washed. It turns out about as often as baseball caps were washed!! LOL

Thanks for the responses everyone. Does the business you work for have BRC accreditation?
Yes, the laundering of the hats / beanies is a concern....
We are SQF certified. I have worked in FDA facilities and USDA facilities and this has been the thought pattern at each place.
Hi Heather,
We are BRC certified. As long as hair is covered with net, hat or beanie could be worn on top. BRCGS does not say anything against it, but you can do a risk assessment just in case.
