I am vetting a potential supplier and saw that the ingredient statement has "Refined Palmolein Oil" as the frying oil used for the product.

 

Does anyone know more in-depth differences between Palm Oil and Refined Palmolein Oil? I am familiar with Palm Oil, but when I read "Refined Palmolein Oil" in an ingredient statement, I interpret it as something different.

 

I also wanted to rule out that the difference could be the way the specification was translated as the product would be coming from India.

 

If they are in fact different, are there RSPO considerations for Refined Palmolein Oil? 

 

Any insight would be helpful.

So your refined Palmolein Oil is a palm oil product (it's part of palm oil,  when the oil is being refined, it separates into palm olein and palm stearine). So if you're needing RSPO certification on your products, your supplier will need to have RSPO certification for this oil. (Mass Balance, IP, Segregated or B&C) 

 

As the product is fried in this oil, it is absorbed into the product, so it's part of the product.

 

Per the RSPO standard:

 

Oil Palm Products Products produced from the oil palm, including its fruit and kernels. Depending on the context, the phrase ‘oil palm products’ in this document can also refer to products such as (crude) palm oil, shells, palm kernels, palm kernel expeller, palm kernel oil (PKO), or products derived thereof, palm fatty acids (PFAD), palm kernel fatty acids (PKFAD), olein, stearin, or other products that are derived from fractionation of palm oil and palm kernel oil.
