Hi Joanne,

Basically you need to look at your whole operation, measure loss & waste and take actions to reduce them based on the priority list below. Your policy should reflect what you do and your targets.

FLW Strategies Priority Ranking

1.     Reduction at Source – Reduce Total Volume/Weight

2.     Food Redistribution – Donations

3.     Animal Feed – Food downgrade recovered for animal feed

4.     Industrial Uses and Fertilizers

5.     Anaerobic Digestion

6.     Composting

7.     Landfill – last resort for disposal

Have a look at the FSSC 22000 Guidance Document for Food Loss and Waste which I attached in post 2 of this topic: Food loss and waste policy, I’m sure it will give you plenty of ideas.

https://www.ifsqn.co...d-waste-policy/

Section 5.2.1 Guidance offers a 3-step plan which you could use a template for your policy/procedure and then adapt to suit your product/organisation.

1. Target includes:

Quantify food loss & waste

Determine processes in place to manage food loss & waste

Investigate root causes of food  loss & waste

Establish a prevention plan

2. Measure

3. Act

See the guidance for the details.

Kind regards,

Tony
