Can I please ask for some advice in terms o hair nets wearing by bold operators. I'm working at the company that makes direct food contact products and wearing hair nets is a must but for those without hair doesn't make much sense so I'm looking for reasonable explanation for them, to understood that rule applied in the company.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

Regards

Marta

It is rare that a person is completely bald with no hair on their head at all. Most people have hair around the neck and ears and because of that, we have all people wear hairnets.

Many years ago, there were people at my facility, who shaved their heads in support of someone going through chemotherapy treatment. They all wore hairnets afterward for this reason. When it comes in, it comes in quickly.

Hi Marta :)

The rule must apply to all employees, no exemptions.

You can play with the risk assessment but I wouldn`t recommend this as you will face other employees complaining about this.

Hairnets are part of the uniform, plain and simple, no matter if you are bald.  If you allow those who are bald not to wear hairnets you create a slippery slope.  Next you'll have staff asking to wear tank tops in the summer if they shave their armpits, etc.  (Seriously been asked by someone if they shaved their armpits could they wear a tank top into work (for packaging facility)).

I actually went thru this with a bald employee.

The rule states hairnets are to be worn in production.   Doesn't say anything about amount of hair.   That was my explanation to him.

Hairnets prevent skin flakes and hair/ear wax from entering the food.

Outside of that it's a requirement and there are other jobs out there.
