Need a bit of sage advice please folks,

Are there any documents or specifications regarding pest management in pharmaceutical warehousing/distributions sites.

I have been asked to put together a pest management programme for said site but have not found any relevant documentation regarding site protocols, frequency of inspections, specific site requirements ect ect.

This is a UK site, but I`m not able to find any specific information which with to work with.

thank you in advance

Tony

Hi Tony,

Are you looking for the templates or which procedures and documents to implement?

For Pest control you will probably need:

Pest Control plan, Facility Map with trap locations, traps with location numbers, Routine inspection checklist, schedules, Pesticide SDS for each product used (they must be approved pesticides for your facility), logs of inspection dates, observations, CAPAs, and pest control training records.

There may be additional documents required, these come to mind first.

My two cents is for the price, bring in a pest control place to run it for you.  They button everything up nice and neat, and are much more complete with the task than someone else can be, besides which they're not that expensive.  You still need one of your on site people to 'manage' it, do some trap checking, etc, but it's worth it to hire it out.

Just like in the movie Elf.   Boss asks his head writers for ideas, and their idea is:   Hire another writer...lol.   Bring in Miles Finch!

I agree, a 3rd party pest control company is money well spent!!! One less thing to worry about.

Here in the United States, but what are your manufacturing? Complete fabrication of pharmaceutical or just re-packaging or only warehousing? That will determining your level or risk. This will be based on risk.

Have Pest Control Service Provider conduct at minimum a monthly service of exterior rodent bait stations and interior glue trap stations and maybe interior flying insect lights. This provider will conduct a survey and recommend services needed. Ensure all doors, windows and openings are sealed with daily removal of all trash and employee lunches. These providers also track all activity and will trend these out so that you can assess and make changes and corrections as needed and present this to any audits or customer requirements.

Research and look into GFSI requirements (BRC, SQF, etc.) in the Pest Control sections to see what is required to meet those minimum standards.

1. Eliminate the food or the attractant for pests.

2. Seal off points of entry.

3. Install traps, rodenticide, for potential pests that may penetrate facility.

4. Work with pest control provider for best practices to prevent/eliminate pests.
