QUID tolerances (UK Regs)

Hi all. Does anyone know if there are documented tolerances for QUID? TIA

Generally, when determining QUID values I have used process tolerances to determine QUID range then label at lowest value.

Unlike nutritional tolerances there are no published tolerances for QUID

For nutrition the tolerance is to allow for variation in raw materials from season to season.

 

I recall a case in the UK where a manufacturer was claiming the same tolerance applied to QUID as to nutrition

the court ruling was that unlike nutrition where the manufacturer has no or very limited  control over the composition of the ingredients

the manufacturer has total control over how much of each ingredient is present in a batch

On that basis the same tolerance does not apply, and the manufacturer should make every effort to achieve or exceed the QUID

 

The best advice, as above, is always be conservative on QUID declarations, round down.

There's nothing I know of that can be classed as up to date or current. The FSA used to be far more helpful and comprehensive  on such things so I have attached an old guidance from the turn of the century which though largely irrelevant now  may aid in some decision making, especially concerning rounding.

 

As previous posters have replied best stick to the side of caution.
