We are implementing a "clean room" environment for the manufacture of food tags.

We are not BRC compliant at the moment but want to work towards it.

We have contract cleaners who will carry out the housekeeping and general cleaning within the clean room.

I hope this isn't a stupid question, but do their cleaning products need to be BRC compliant and if so, how do I know that they are?

GFSI (all of them) do not certify cleaning products but MAY certify the facility who produces them

It is your responsibility to ensure:

-they are suitable for your process/product

-you can get LOG for the products that includes an allergen statement

Suitability and also all need to be checked to ensure no allergens - we have a client that ended up with a heap of problems when using an outside company to handle cleaning. So dig deep on this one.

BRC GS Compliance for packaging materials - as a good source for the first step into this system refer to

https://eur-lex.euro...:2022:355:FULL

EUROPEAN COMMISSION COMMISSION NOTICE on the implementation of food safety management systems covering Good Hygiene Practices and procedures based on the HACCP principles, including the facilitation/flexibility of the implementation in certain food businesses (2022/C 355/01)

and follow the required PRPs (prerequisite programs)

download the BRC GS packaging standard and have a look in chapter 4

https://www.brcgs.co...-issue-6/p-723/

choose the free version (free pdf, top right corner)

please be aware that in case of European legislation food packaging supplier have to follow the mentioned document and all of the GFSI standards do not cover more than just fulfilment of legal requirements :-)

If your company contracts a service supplier for cleaning your are still responsible for his doing.

A risk based approach on each of the activities (possible influence on equipment, products, men, environment..) is useful to identify possible failures in advance.

Chemicals need to be check on - work safety issues and on - product safety issues (composition, ingrdients which might influence your products if they stay present on the surface of equipment)
