Indicator Organisms and Food Grade Air

Took Place:
Friday, June 30, 2023

Presenter:
Maria Sandoval, Lab Director, Trace Analytics LLC

Webinar Overview:
Microbial contamination of food grade air is a great concern to many food and beverage manufacturers. Because microorganisms are ubiquitous, it can be helpful to identify the types of organisms that are detected in compressed air samples. Indicator organisms can help point to the source of contamination and provide manufacturers the opportunity to remediate the issue. Maria Sandoval, Trace Analytics laboratory director, will explain the types of microorganisms that are the most concerning and how testing and identification can help manufacturers further ensure end-product quality.

Monika Gupta : all set
Jay Anderson : I have historically used the 2013 Parker Balston White Paper:  Reducing Contamination Risks of Compressed Air in Food Plants. There are some updates needed as GFSI standards have been updatedIs this still a good white paper to support plant risk assessments?
Osama kamal : Hello for every one
Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Shabbir : Hn bhai?
Mohammed ARAB : is giudleine from The British Compressed Air Society recognized, i am talking about Food and Beverage Grade Compressed Air Best Practice Guideline 102
simon timperley : the audit is clear it must be your connection. However, it is being recorded and will be circulated afterwards
Mohinder Salooja : Good Evening from India
irrum babu : Good evening from Pakistan
B G Ravikumar Sastry : Good day, From India
ANANTH P : Hello From India
Mohammed ARAB : we can also add terminal sterilizing filter at each point of use, when sterility is mandatory
Solomon Oyeniran : Brilliant analysis on compressed air in relation to microorganisms. However another risk analysis on compressed air is physio chemical contamination such as oil, metals etc. So, how do we test for physio chemical contaminants in foods? Thank you.
Mohammed ARAB : what is apparentb rugosity required for staless steel piping?
Mohammed ARAB : what kind of air sampler do we need for compressed ait?
Marino Dait : Hello
Trang Tran Thi Huyen : What are acceptable limits of microbiological results
PATRICIA NWOSU : Hello
Mohinder Salooja : Thanks and Very Good please
Debbie Johnston : Great information thanks so much.  You are awesome.
Wrayanne Cruz : Is the bacteria in the air or on the pipimg system? How did you sample to get "E. coli from air" what is the procedure. Thanks.
simon timperley : White Paper: Reducing Contamination Risks of Compressed Air in Food Plants.
EDWIN OKONG'O : We do not have compressed air.Is the testing of ambient air say microbial air density also governed by ISO 8573?
JONATHAN CHISHAK : Is it very possible to achieved 100% compress air with no trace of contaminant?
Nigel Blitz : Do you have a partner lab in the UK where we can hire the impacters from and have the analysis carried out
PREM SAGAR : there are various filteration method.so, which are the best filteration method and filteration module
ana Solorzano : What are acceptable limits of microbiological results fr food contact
Alyssa J : https://cdn.daviscon...White Paper.pdf                    link to paper Jay asked about, 2012 version
Rhonda Bonfey : Hello
Cindy Council : Oops internet issues on my end
Alan Gallagher : I work in a edible oil business where we have to discharge the oil out of the shipping tank using compressed air. There is a  HEPA filter fitted to  the compressor to trap any dust particle  ,air borne contaminants, etc. The data sheet for the filter didn't state a micron size, just a % efficiency rating in a recent BRCGS audit so i couldn't provide this info . . . Is this absolutely necessary to have the filter pore size  ?
Karen Izurieta : How long should be the time exposure for compressed air monitoring?
PREM SAGAR : there are the various filteration methods.so,which are the best method of filteration and filteration module?
SYEDA SABA FIRDOUS : Which standard to follow to check compressed air ? in
PATRICIA NWOSU : Can ambient air have fungal growth
Nigel Blitz : Thank you
ARACELY ANTONIO : what about in mexico? do you recomend a supplier ?
Mohinder Salooja : email  M.K. Salooja:  mksalooja@gmail.com
JONATHAN CHISHAK : Is it very possible to achieved 100% compress air with no trace of contaminant?
Mohammed ARAB : the ISO 8573-7: mention slit sampler, is it the same technique as impaction sampler.
Karina Rodriguez : If there are indicator organisms in the air and the compressor was recently used and contacted food product. After risk assesment, there is doubt of the integrity of the food product. Would this trigger a recall?
SATEESHKUMAR MANAVALAN : Control measures to contaminant control
JONATHAN CHISHAK : Is there a fast way of testing contaminated air for urgent resullt?
Helen Kearney : Is using compressed air to clean tooling to seal products and to clean  food contact belts considered food contact grade air
Karina Rodriguez : Great, that's what I was thinking too
Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Shabbir : Great day
PATRICIA NWOSU : Kindly advise the recommended agar to use for fungal growth monitoring
Madhukumar Gowdru : What is the level of risk when using compressed air is used to blow packing materials which is intrun used in food packing
Alyssa J : Can a settle plate be useful in compressed air testing?  Based on your training today, the impaction sampler seems to be a must for testing, correct?  I have not seen a specific method dictated by SQF.
ARACELY ANTONIO : Thanks!! excellent information!!
Mohammed ARAB : ency recomewhat is the monitoring frequnded for compressed air
Karen Izurieta : If  I want to know the air quality in compressed air how long should be the exposure time on the plate?
PATRICIA NWOSU : When sampling compressed air, what are the likely micro-organisms to watch out for.
Diana Hernandez : Are there any other sampling methods that don't require the impaction sampler?
PATRICIA NWOSU : Thanks so much
