For Waitrose suppliers:

BRCGS has a longstanding relationship with Waitrose to drive up food safety in its supply network. Their policy decision to use the Plant Based Standard is an evolution of that relationship as they respond to a growing number of their consumers seeking to protect the environment and animal welfare, and eat a diet that does not have a negative impact on their health. The Plant-Based certification programme is a science-based management system approach that provides a framework for manufacturers to assist them in the production of vegan products and includes operational criteria that ensures that plant-based products are free of material of animal origin. It therefore provides Waitrose’s customers with reassurance that the choices they make are valid, while protecting Waitrose’s brand reputation and mitigating its risk.

The implication that a vegan diet is more healthy is based on flimsy evidence at best.

Only seriously overdoing red meat poses any actual health risks.
