Tuna in Oil High Fat Content

Hi!

Our buyer sent us a complain that our product "tuna in Oil" has a high fat content. Can the oil  (as packing medium) affect the fat content of the tuna (Skipjack)? We've been sending samples for fat analysis of our tuna and the fat content of the tuna has been stable ever since. Adding reference for your answers is much appreciated. TIA!

Hi angiely,

Yes off course the packing medium will affect it's nutritional value.
If you store bread in oil it will bemore oily than regular dry bread, right?

The Dutch keep a record of nutritional values of quite some product groups.
''Tuna, canned natural. Energie 114, total fat 1,1''
''Tuna, canned in oil. Energie 190, total fat 10,3''

What is the fat content that your buyer is referring to? What is it comparing your tuna in oil with?

So you're saying when you send the tuna out for analysis you are NOT including any of the oil?

Even if your customer drained the tuna, there will be oil left that should be incorporated into the nutritional panel

Or perhaps 2 columns, drained and undrained

Is your customer claiming that the tuna does not match the label claim?
