Do Inks used on the label of finished goods need to be food grade?
Dear everyone,
As per BRC requirement, is it necessary to have "food grade" ink that used to print the labels for the finished good?
Can anyone share with me if it's necessary?
Thank you all for your answers!
Best regards,
Walailuk
Greetings Walailuk,
It is necessary if you use permeable food contact material, given the potential of migration of ink components. That's the general guideline. However this can depend on other factors, like the label itself (is it a separate attached label or printed right on the package?). You could also perform a migration test, but it is unsure if a BRC auditor will accept it unless you can solidly prove you have all variables covered.
Regards!
