would like to get some clarification on the EMP as per FSSC 22000 requirements.

1) if open air monitoring is conducted using plate agar at zone 2 area (area which is non product contact surface but adjacent to product contact surface), what type of microbial test recommended and if total plate count, yeast & mould, coliform and stap.aureus is recommended or pls share if any guideline available on type of test for open air monitoring?

2) bulk product loading line in open environment is consider as high risk area (zone 1) ? eg fatty acid & refined glycerine (FSSC certified product), with low moisture content and no medium that wil promote microbial growth if loading into tanker, then the loading line where the product pass through is consider as product contact surface within zone 1?

thank you.

Hi priya,

Could you clarify what the Product / Process is ?

Hi priya,

Could you clarify what the Product / Process is ?

Hi Charles,

Product is oleochemical products eg fatty acids and refined glycerine.

Hi, Priya.

In your country, what is  microbiological regulatory requirement for oil? Also, if you supply to customers, what are the requirements for the products that you produced, from there, you can select the microbial test you can perform.  Some countries I think do not have microbiological requirement for the products you mentioned. Having been familiar with oil process, why have zone 2 (or 3 and 4) when the production is mostly a close system one?

For the second, product contact zone is zone 1 but having you mentioned that it is low risk and will not support growth, perhaps check the requirement of FSSC which states that environmental monitoring program is "risk-based".
