SQF v9 11.3.3.7 - Storage of protective clothing
11.3.3.7 States
"Racks shall be provided for the temporary storage of protective clothing when staff leave the processing area and shall be provided nearby or adjacent to the personnel access doorways and handwashing facilities."
So, if a facility uses hooks mounted on the wall instead of a "rack" as prescribed ... am I splitting hairs? Or is the code favoring "rack" usage over wall hooks due to cross-contamination issues? It is hard to overlook the work choice specifically being "rack" when other words less definitive could have been chosen if desired such as "something", "devices", etc.
What are the thoughts of the experts here?
Plastic Ducky
Pegs/Hooks on a wall = "rack"
If you have potential for cross contamination between different production area garments it would be advisable to segregate them though.
We use racks for hanging clean smocks and hooks on the wall for hanging smocks when team members are leaving the clean zone, for whatever reason.
I just tell the team to hang used smocks on hooks, where smock is directly touching wall, if the smock is not excessively dirty. And we swab and clean the wall under the hooks.
Hooks definitely work well for us as our change room is small.
