One of our production employees must wear a durag (similar to a skullcap or bonnet) to maintain his hair. We require him to wear a hairnet over it. We have also decided to purchase him a fresh supply of durags acting almost as part of his uniform so that he's not bringing clothing from home into the production area. They are machine washable.

If we require him to wear a hairnet over, do we also need to regulate how often the durags are changed throughout the work day? For example, what if he goes outside or uses the bathroom. The hairnet is changed out, but should the durag be changed out as well? Or should it just be treated almost like an extension of his uniform.

Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thank you :)

A durag or bonnet isn't the same as a hairnet. I would not ask him to change it our during the day.
It would really defeat the purpose of him wearing it if you were to ask him to change it out several times a day. We have not asked our folks working in the freezer to provide proof of washing their wool caps.
Treat it as a uniform extension.
