3rd Party Storage and Distribution of Finished Goods
Hello,
My company has an SQF cert that covers our packaging operation. We currently work with a 3rd party cold storage facility who does a large amount of order fulfillment for us. They currently do not have a 3rd party food safety certification, and I am trying to get an understanding of the risk here. We have the option of potentially leasing the cold storage space and would be able to have our employees in charge of storage and distribution there.
If our employees are handling storage and distribution at this off site facility, does this need to be covered under the scope of our SQF certification? Is there any advice on how to handle this and the implications of increasing our certification scope to cover that offsite location?
Cheers
Personal recommend... they should prepare to become SQF and without an fsms/audit they should likewise prepare to go down... the wrong path.
If you bring the entire operation in house you will need the SQF certification for distribution. If you leave it as it is you may be able to "get away" with a simple 3rd party audit of their dosc, sysy and Mfg facility.

We just finished our re-certification audit. I am unfamiliar on certifying a new facility under the distribution code. Any guidance on steps to take?
yes, go get the code manual from SQFI for distribution.
