Convert CFU/CM^2
The area swabbed was 10cm^2. But the results only shows the CFU of the swab samples. How can I convert them into CFU/CM^2.
558 CFU/swab
44 355 CFU/swab
63 050 CFU/swab
3453 CFU/swab
Hi,
if I understood correctly, the result number is the number per each swab, so that the result is calculated per cm2 it is necessary to
divide this by the swab area.
For exemple: if the swab area is 100cm2 than the result per cm2 is: CFU/cm2=558/100 ~ 6 cfu/cm2
I hope the attached material helps you.
All the best!

Hi Tricia,
The numbers in OP look peculiar.
As per attachment in Post2, you need to be slightly careful over the presentation of the lab results. The latter typically sample 1ml and do a test. This result is then re-calculated for the total volume which was received, ie equivalent to the swab.
Sometimes the lab are lazy and only give you a result per ml and leave the final calculation up to you.
As long as yr received results correspond to the total volume of liquid delivered then, as per Post2, you simply need to divide the numbers in OP by 10 to > cfu /cm2
I got experiences of what Charles said here.
I had agreed with the lab technician that the swab areas were 10cmx10cm squares and the unit remained exact CFU/100sqcm. Then the coordinator tried to file the reports in CFU/mL but I refused and gave them a complaint.
We pay for the tests. Let them do the maths.
