Importing dairy and vegan products from Japan...what should be on the outercase labels?
Hi Everyone,
We are looking at importing product from japan (some contain dairy others are vegan)
Can anyone advise exactly what we required to have on the outercase label please?
Thanks
Where are you importing the products to?
That might have a significant bearing on the specific requirements.
Apologies, into the UK
Food labelling regulations (primarily 1169/2011) don't directly apply to outer cases. There might theoretically be a requirement to include some of the mandatory label information that would normally apply at consumer level, if the outer case labels are the primary method of communicating this information to the food business to whom you're supplying the product - e.g. if it is supplied to a caterer and the allergen information that they need to be able to meet their own obligations is detailed on the outer case label.
Otherwise as long as the data meets basic needs in terms of storage / traceability / durability information, the main source of specific requirements is likely to be the customers to whom you're supplying the product, as it'll need to fit into whatever their intake/warehouse requirements are.
For imported products, the key information is generally provided in the import documentation (e.g. Bill of Lading, Phytosanitary certificates etc as applicable) - this method means that it doesn't really matter if it isn't possible to label the product, and allows for communication of far more detail than would ever be needed on the label.
