Hello guys,

Hope you can help me with this one.. this year would be our 3rd certification. And our maintenance department is not doing very well with building a strong Maintenance Manual. However, they log their activities thru a form that i have developed within my procedures to be able to address that they have taken out the chemicals or grease and tools whenever they did a work on the machine.

Do you think that for my sector category we are entitled or somehow requierd to build a strong maintenance manual or we can keep doing the way its working to be able to comply with maintenance requirements.

We fall under FSC 27: Manufacture of Food Packaging

Thanls,

As long as it works for you and does not compromise product quality, safety and legality, you may continue doing your maintenance activities. However, whatever is done should be documented - it could be you if your maintenance guys don't have time and willingness to do it. You could describe their activities in simple words, and don't forget to also indicate frequency of maintenance, equipment names, chemicals used, post-maintenance activities, other precautions, etc.

Hi Jean-

Every company I have worked for getting maintenance to get in line with SQF or BRC has been like pulling teeth. Its sounds like you are on the right track with grease and tool accountability. Have there been NC's raised when auditing maintenance?

As for a good manual I feel that is up to personal preference. Do you have written SOP's on repairing each piece of equipment, or equipment group such as PM types based on intervals set by manufacturer's guidelines? What about training? I guess where I am getting at might be easier if you explain what you have in place and I am sure this forum will help get you on track.
