Remote Audit Preparation Woes

Just a little grumbling about auditors.....My facility is FSSC22000 and ISO9001. Last week was the remote portion of the FSSC and this week is the totally remote ISO9001. Both auditors wanted to spend hours on the phone before the audit "determining the scope" of the audit. They both send ridiculously bad agendas that had multiple repeat topics, no lunches or breaks on some days, wanted to audit things we did not have, on and on. The remote ISO9001 told me last Friday at 4pm that we needed to do live video audit. The last remote we did with them had no video it would have been nice to know this with a little more notice. Today (a non-audit) day the auditor wanted me to walk all over the facility so she could she what she needed to audit. Hmmm isn't that what the audit is for? If she was physically coming here she would not see it until she got here why does she need a preview? 2 hours today, 4 hours last Friday and 2 hours 2 weeks ago, I wonder if I can count that as one day of my 4 day audit.

This whole remote audit thing is kind of undiscovered territory with the auditing bodies. It seems like some of them are handling it better than others. AIB basically wanted me to run a film crew to do a remote and I ended up deciding to just go with the on site.

Since it's new territory, it probably wouldn't hurt to explain to them that things like:

  •  "Today (a non-audit) day the auditor wanted me to walk all over the facility so she could she what she needed to audit"
    • Unacceptable and should be handled in the scope of the actual audit
  • The remote ISO9001 told me last Friday at 4pm that we needed to do live video audit.
    • An inconvenience and you would appreciate more lead time on things like this

We have to kind of give the auditing bodies a bit of wiggle room to work things out, but don't hesitate to let them know when things they implement aren't going to work and try to work out something you can both agree on.

Most Auditors are still in the getting used to phase of remote auditing due to the plannedemic.

It's a territory that takes a lot of getting used to, I'd cut them some slack as they are having to do live baby steps - I'd cut them a lot of slack, their work is difficult enough.

Hello!

Absolutely unaccepted. There are rules (for each standard, BRC; FSSC22000, IFS), to follow and conduct a remote audit. You shall contact the CB and claim for this bad practice.

Best regards,

Leila
