What Maintenance by an Operator would require a work order?
Hi everyone, was wondering what maintenance need would require for a work order? I am specifically asking for small instances such as tightening a bolt or the operator makes a small adjustment? What is needed there? I am asking for SQF system. Thanks!
Hey Ral. A lot of this is different from location to location. Our facility also has instances where tightening bolts, removing hoses, etc. falls on the operator, and no maintenance work order is required. Most policy/procedure documents will make mention of this and give a 'threshold' or explain what requires a work order. Have you read over your policy/procedure relating to SQF PRP 2.1.2 (it's been a while this might not be the correct place)?
Normally for small items like this a log is kept - what was done, by whom, when, time etc.
A work order would be triggered by something that isn't part of a routine preventative maintenance task on a piece of equipment or part of the equipment. Things like replacing the sweep on a dock door, fixing a crack in the concrete or production floor, etc.
When it comes to the fixtures and operation of equipment; bolts and fittings, etc. should be part of a preventative maintenance task (if the bolt and fittings routinely loosen over time)
A lot of PMMS (Preventative Maintenance Management Systems) have the ability for users to log work orders for things that need replaced or repaired (internal and external grounds, building maintenance, etc.). If you don't have that it could be a simple form with what needs replaced then it is filled out by maintenance for the date it was completed and by whom.
