Nutrition Value Calculation
Hi all, I have some doubt regarding the NIP calculation. We are supplying muffin currently and we are planning to change the supplier of one of the ingredients, IQF blueberry. The product spec provided does not contain the NIP for the blueberry. In this case, does the change of iqf blueberry supplier affect the NIP of the muffin? Thank you.
The product spec provided does not contain the NIP for the blueberry.
You could always ask the supplier to see if they have the data - I have used many ingredients where this has been provided separately to the spec.
It's not clear where you're selling the product, but as far as I'm aware there is generally some sort of tolerance allowed in the figures shown on the label vs. the "actual" values in any given product/batch. The values that the supplier(s) give you will only be indicative at best, as the fruit itself will naturally vary through the season, between crops/varieties/origins etc.
Changing source possibly will change the values slightly, but whether this is significant enough to affect the finished product label is something you may wish to consider. Consider that if e.g. the sugar content of the blueberries is 10% different, and they are 10% of your total ingredients, this will be a total of a 1% (10% of 10%) change to the sugar content of the final product.
