Enquiry on microbial unit (less than) or (less than or equal to)
Hi. I have been going through some product specifications and I found that in the section for microbe, some of the units declared will have either < (less than) or ≤ (less than or equal to). May I know in what situation or condition do we need to use these symbols? Is it based on the methods or a guideline that can be followed or how? Can anyone help to explain as I am not expert in microbiology? Thank you in advance!

The choice in micro specs is sometimes "random" and occasionally illogical/incorrect.
The theoretically correct usage may depend on the specific case/numbers involved.
Perhaps you can give an example of your own interest for analysis/comment ?

In order to prepare a product specification, I have been going through some specs and saw these signs which somehow made me think in what condition should I be using the signs? As I would like to standradized the product specs that I will have to prepare. I did some readings that some said it depends on the country's regulation standard if they use less than then I should follow and vice versa.

Well, depending on whose Regulatory data you decide to follow will, rightly or wrongly, presumably dictate yr specific choice ?
I anticipate the controlling data in yr case will be those of Malaysian Micro. Standards although I'm unsure if such a compilation exists ?

One feature which should presumably exist where mixed formats occur is internal consistency, eg compare-

Middle one seems to have an error.
1st and 3rd are different revisions from same source and use, I daresay, equally justifiable decision criteria but give slightly different results due the arrow-head formats. Take your pick. :smile:
