Hi all

We currently package in two tetra pak formats, Tetra Top and Tetra Prisma. Tetra Pak is notoriously tight-lipped about all packaging materials we get through them. We are currently stepping up SQF Food Safety Code and I am working on an Allergen Control Plan. Our facility does not handle allergens.

The only thing I can get from Tetra is a one page memo saying their food contact materials don't have allergens. They won't share any allergen plans or explain if they do residual allergen testing. I have 3rd party audit certificate for each manufacturing location.

Will this be sufficient? Any advice?

Thanks!

Glen or someone else who actually performs SQF audits might be better to chime in on this one, but if they are providing a statement on company letterhead signed and dated that their product contains no allergens, I would think that would be sufficient for SQF concerning both your supplier approval of them as well as your allergen control program.

I only provide that for my customers (statement on letterhead stating no allergens  used in any processes or in any product, signed/dated) but my allergen control program is simple, no food or unauthorized drink outside of allowed areas and all employees wash hands after eating (among other things).

One question, what do your policies (Allergen control and Supplier approval) state you will retrieve from them prior to allowing them as a supplier? If you are in violation of this, SQF will hit you for it.

The memo is acceptable.

Tetra pak presents no allergen issue, not even a gluten issue.

My Supplier Approval states for high risk materials like ingredients or packaging material I need an Allergen Control Plan and Allergen Statement. My other high risk supplier (we are a fairly simply product) happily supplied me with both. I will have to edit to say one or the other

Thanks all!
