QAP / Machine Operator Expectations and Responsibilities

Good Morning All,

I'm in the process of reviewing and consolidating production paperwork and trying to determine what our machine operators should actually be doing in terms of verifying the product they make.

A short background: We grind/chop and repack via Vertical form fill seal machines chocolate, candies and granola. The items we purchase are ready for market/ready for retail.

Our quality technicians verify: Net Contents, Lot coding, Best By Dating, and Seal Integrity.

Our Machine Operators (Vertical Form Fill and Seal Machine) - check seal integrity and GROSS Case Weights.

I'm thinking the Machine operators need to complete net weights and not gross weights.

Would anyone be willing to share what their machine operators responsibilities are and associated paperwork they may use?

would anyone be will to share their QAP?

Hi Shuster.35; I think it's totally up to the management what responsibilities to assign to the operators: for instance, as we have only 1 QA (me, myself and I), my operators check weight, date code, seal, integrity, organoleptic, and some other things with recording check results on corresponding forms. The more QA/QC personnel you have, the less your operators check...

All comes down to what is more efficient for your process. If it is more efficient for your operators to check then have them, if no and it creates some sort of errors and you don't "trust" them, then QA.

After all at the end of the day it's about process "efficiency"  and "effectiveness".
