Recommendations for Quality Check Points in Fruits and Vegetables
Hello Expert,
Would like to know your technical advise on fruits and vegetables quality inspections at the time of audit and receiving.
a) How to check the product quality specially fruits and vegetables.
b) apart from basic physical check , any instruments or device available to verify large group of commodities.
c) Is there any signs and symptoms to check and accept or verify the quality of fruits and vegetables.
Please advise.
Regards,

Hey Baskaran, I have never worked for a producer I worked in beverage but we would receive fruits/ vegetables. When receiving we would check the temperature of the truck to make sure that it was <41 F. We would look for product that was moldy/ squishy. We would take 3 boxes and check them. For apples, we would look for patulism (brown spots). Once they were received we had a control point where we would check the concentration of the sanitizer to ensure they were being washed/ sanitized.
Every fruit and veggie has their specific thing to look which you need to do the research on. I for sure remember apples being different from the rest.
I hope this gives you a start.
USDA has all the inspection criteria on line.
Thanks Much appreciated. The link certainly will be helpful on the context.
