Questions on the new requirement for employees to wear face masks

With the new requirement for employees to wear face masks, several questions have popped up: We are a food packaging manufacturer.

1} Will the face mask be able to replace the requirement to wear a beard net, if the individual only has a mustache?

2} In the event of an individual having a full beard, what is the correct procedure for wearing both?

3} Are there any guidance or instructional videos for the safe use, application and disposal of face masks?

Hi Stephen, interesting questions, sorry I don't have any answers, but am watching.

So in the US this is now mandatory?  Apart from the workplace where else do face masks have to be worn.  I think the UK is probably the only country where hardly anyone wears them.  Possibly because they interfere with out stiff upper lips.

Simon

At this time, they are not universally mandatory. There have been recommendations, but due to the availability, no US wide ruling has been made.

We are debating wearing a beard net OVER the mask for everyone.  These would be for the cloth hand made masks.

When my company was debating cloth style masks over the mouth and nose, we concluded that a snood over the mask would be approproate for all mask wearers - as Setanta suggests - not just for facial hair (where applicable) but foreign body hazard from the masks, especially if they are being taken out of the production area. Who knows what Bob put his mask on when he goes out for a break.

We also looked at the visor style things but then you have the issue of lots of mobile plastic objects in close proximity with food all shift.

Regarding disposal, I'd imagine placing in a bin and washing hands would be adequate.

I would just go ahead and get burka's for everybody.

You got all bases covered then.

1} Will the face mask be able to replace the requirement to wear a beard net, if the individual only has a mustache? - No

2} In the event of an individual having a full beard, what is the correct procedure for wearing both? - Beard mask over is what we require

3} Are there any guidance or instructional videos for the safe use, application and disposal of face masks? For safe use: https://www.cdc.gov/...-coverings.html - this can be found in multiple languages

As for disposal - it'd be the same as gloves.

I live in a state where it isn't mandatory. The employees using cloth masks need to wash it them themselves. I gave out the instructions you see above.

Just found another source about masks with a video: https://www.feedingus.org/

Hello so this is what we are doing and have been doing before this even began. We have a lot of dry powder so people normally wear masks.

1} Will the face mask be able to replace the requirement to wear a beard net, if the individual only has a mustache? Yes, as long as the the mask covers the facial hair.

2} In the event of an individual having a full beard, what is the correct procedure for wearing both? We have them put the mask first then a beard net over to cover the remainder of the hair.

3} Are there any guidance or instructional videos for the safe use, application and disposal of face masks? I have never used any videos. I just ask them to wash their hands after they put on their PPE.

I suggest one more -

Assuming the mask is for protection from COVID-19, does it protect ? (ie Validation)

(for context, see WHO/CDC)

In a very hot food processing environment, we have been using neck gaiters but it is still tough to manage those vs disposable masks vs beard net.
