Hi everyone,

This is the first time for me to work to a company related to food. I currently work to a trader/distributor of packaging material for various food company at Philippines. Our company wants to certify in fssc 22000. What are the things I needed to acquire the certification?

Thank You In Advance

Hi Ryanmaximo,

As you're new to the food industry, it may be worth hiring the services of a consultant to help implement the standard otherwise it could be quite a daunting task.

Alternatively IFSQN has several GFSI Certification Packages that may be worth an investment to guide you through the requirements:

Good morning Ryanmaximo -

As Zanorias mentioned above - two routes for you to consider.

If your company wants you to DIY, the best route would be for you to have a consultant do what is known as an FSSC 22000 consulting gap analysis to see where you are right now in respect to food safety management system documentation, condition of facility, etc. and then get the IFSQN development package and DIY your own system, have an FSSC 22000 Auditor come in to do a  pre-audit review and inspection and then go for your official certifying body audit.  That's at base, so to speak, obviously a bit more involved as there are several courses you should take to help you get a better handle on working in the food sector as well as introduction/prep courses for your chosen GFSI scheme.

The other route (and if capital resources are available for it) is to have a consultant come in and do the gap first and then working in conjunction with you and yours co-develop your system with you and go from there.

By the way, when I say "come in" that is one route to take, there are consultants that are more than capable of doing their work entirely off site without ever stepping inside your front door.

In addition to the above mentioned, I would also recommend you get yourself familiar through a training on FSSC Implementation + HACCP since it is your first job in the Food Business :)

This assumes you have an "adequate" technical background.

(1) (a) acquire the related ISO Standards and (b) generate a checklist for "Packaging" similar to the "Food" one available here -

https://www.ifsqn.co...v5/#entry151569

(2) Perform a Gap Analysis to determine which clauses (W) are not already satisfied by yr Company's existing Policies/Procedures.

(3) Create/implement Policies/ Procedures to satisfy the clauses (W).

(4) Assemble the set of Policies/Procedures into appropriate Manuals.

(5) Generate Records as required by the Standard.

(6) Choose an appropriate Company to do a Certification audit

Thank you very much for your inputs. I am studying this ISO 22000 standard to be familiar on fsms. Basically our company is starting from a scratch, I only join them last March 24, 2020. We our on-going creating procedures and I know that this is a long way to go. I will propose to my manager to hire a consultant to help and guide us on this certification.

By the way do we need to be certify first in ISO 22000 before we can proceed in FSSC 22000 certification? Or we can directly proceed on FSSC certification as long as we establish the fsms based on ISO 22000 standards?
