they are used in flexographic printing.  Food packaging.  The slitter blades slit the rolls of labels or film from many rows of labels into individual rolls of 1 label

We buy blades packed in plastic boxes. After receiving, we label every blade tray in a box with a number and prepare a replacement log sheet for that box. Each time the splitting team change a blade, they take a new one from the box, stick the old one on the log sheet and record the replacement & condition of the blade (ex.: all broken pieces are collected).

Also, a maintenance team check the stocking of blades and log sheets every week.

To work out a practical control method, you would need to know how many slitters are involved, how many blades you use in a day (or shift), who issues them and are they all the same type, eg the razor type or scalpel type etc.

Making a control method too complicated invariably means that it is not followed and mistakes happen.

We issue each machine operator two blades at the beginning of their shift.   This is documented on the pre-op sheet.  They turn in the blades at the end of the day which is also verified on the pre-op.  If they need another blade throughout the day then they must turn in all of the pieces of the blade they are replacing.
