FDA regulated/GMP Uniforms
Hello,
Does anyone know if the US FDA or GMP practices mention any particular uniform standards for work in a food/cosmetic factory?
Thanks,
Dipti
BRC ver 8 - clause 7.4 covers this:
The company I work for has a site in USA that is BRC accredited - site has been visited by FDA who have never expressed any concerns but perhaps a member located in USA has the equivalent FSSC detail?...

We are a very small facility and follow basic GMP... no regulations that I am aware of... for example regarding buttons etc. According to BRC/GFSI are snap buttons prohibited as well?
Thank you!
So far snap buttons seem to be ok - but it's worth advising your laundry facility that they should remove any items with "obvious visual damage"
(in the same way you check your bushes for loose bristles, and plastic cleaning equipment for damage etc - which is usually done at cleaning stage)
There are no FDA regulations that say uniforms must have xxx and cannot have yyy.
You address the food safety risks of uniforms the ame way you address risks for other food safety risks: do risk analysis and develop/implement adequate preventative controls.
Physical contamination - no buttons, no pockets above waist level, no torn uniforms.
Chemical and/or Biological contamination - laundry service to keep the uniforms clean.
