Labelling of carrot and cucumber chips

 Hi Guys

 

I know potato chips is regulated( standardized) by FDA What about other chips like carrot chips, cucumber chips?

 

 can I call these chips?

 

 

or better to say Cucumber  snack pieces

 

 

any help is appreciated

"chips" is not standardized, it pretty much refers to a thin slice of something. It's just "potato chips" that is standardized in 21 CFR 102.41

 

FDA uses the term "chips" to refer to vegetable chip products in a list of FSMA exemptions, so that's probably good provided your product name is sufficiently descriptive.

 

21 CFR 117.5

(xvii) Making snack chips from fruits and vegetables (e.g., making plantain and potato chips);

 

It may be prudent to use the guidance in 102.41 for your product description to say something along the lines of "Carrot Chips - , made from dehydrated carrots" if your chips aren't whole slices.
