Glove options for an employee with fingers missing

Hello All!

I interviewed a great candidate for a production position. The only issue is her one hand is missing all fingers from the first knuckle up. All our staff wear gloves to handle product and work on the production line. I think she would be a great addition to our team but I am at a loss for what to do about wearing a glove?? We hand groom products requiring touching the product during production and packaging.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

James

I mean it might not be the most comfortable, but what's wrong with a floppy glove?

Hi and thanks for the reply!

My concern is that we do hand groom products and a floppy glove can be prone to breaking a tearing or getting caught on something or in equipment.

Hi

gloves come in different sizes can you not get a size to fit? are these rubber or disposable gloves. Cut the ends off above the knuckle

Trial and error would be my advice, if this person is as good as you say why miss out on an excellent candidate, or even ask the candidate if they have any suggestions to the solution

McCordick and Superiour Glove may be able to help you with a custom glove if you commit to purchase x amount. This cannot be the only person in this situation or industry....they won't make them if they don't know there's a call for them

OR you could review your policy regarding gloves.....whats the finished product and what the risk to clean bare hands?

My first thought is... turn the glove inside out before putting it on so the fingers are inside the glove.  Just a thought.

Like someone else said - ask the candidate.  I'm sure if she's a good candidate and really wants the job she can give suggestions - can't be the first time she's had to work around her disability.  Maybe ask HR before approaching her just to be safe.
