HACCP food storage warehouse - Ambiant storage of food in closed bags
Hi,
We are a warehousing compagny for food stored in closed packaging. Product arrives in closed packagin ( bags on pallet or big bags) and stays stored as it until it is shipped out to a customer designed by our customer. No cold storage, only ambient temperature storage.
We are presntly GMP compliant wich means we almot have all the prequisits but would like to be HACCP CERTIFIED FOR AMBIENT STORAGE ONLY...We dont manufacture or handle ( open the packaging).
What would be the next step, wher should I begin.
If you have some documents to share that would be great
Please not that we also store allergens (in closed bags on pallets) that we segeragate in the warehouse, I belive these will be taken in consderation. we alerady have a procedure for Allergens storage.
Thanks

Hi Sam,
I imagine the next step would be to contact a Company to arrange an audit for a HACCP/GMP Standard. I believe various Companies offer such an option.
The specific choice may relate to what yr Customers require (if any?).
For the product you have and since you do not have refrigeration you do not require a HACCP plan. If you are in the US you may have to have a HARPC plan, which is basically the same. But you only would have three points in your flow, receiving, storage, and shipment. There would be no CCP's.
Just to be sure you're clear on how it works, there's no HACCP agency that comes and certifies you. The USDA and FDA require HACCP or now Food Safety Plans for specific industries and tasks.
That being said, a 3rd party audit would certainly look at your HACCP plan if you've developed one. Companies like NSF, and Merieux are good choices but there are others in your area, I'm sure, who can help you out in getting a 3rd party inspection.
If you want something a little more formal, you'll want to look at getting an audit set to a GFSI standard. There's a forum for each standard. Being an SQF practitioner, I have to say that the SQF warehousing standard is not too overbearing and would accomplish your goal of being proudly certified at a global level.
Good Luck
