Best Practices for Managing Construction
I am looking for feedback regarding your experiences managing a GFSI FSMS in a low to medium risk site undergoing construction ( minor expansion) and some of the best practices you applied or learned in the process.
Thanks in advance for your time.
Try to perform construction activities when you are not producing product and keep all your product contact surfaces covered. Try to also provide a dedicated entrance for contractors and cordon off the areas they're allowed to be in. If you cant....
.....create segregation with plastic sheeting between construction areas and product areas. Limit activities that have excessive dust or contamination potential to low risk periods. If you can't..
..Still provide shielding and take some additional environmental samples to try and quantify the risk, but this is a pretty bad situation. Ultimately some construction activities just require lines to go down.
Our plant is also currently under construction. We are adding space to three sides of our building. We have implemented a "Construction Food Safety Plan" where we evaluate the project to be completed and document all of the risks before construction begins. We also had all of the contractors into our conference room for GMP training prior to beginning work in the facility. This has really helped us to communicate with the contractors on what is acceptable as far as construction materials such as temporary walls.
