Does Halal processing permit rework/reprocessing?
According to Halal food manufacturing any process, ingredient, or product regarded as filth according to the Quran cannot be used in Halal food production. Is rework/reprocessing considered filth or not permissible according to Halal food manufacturing?
Good question. In the UK at least there is no one agency who approves Halal so opinions can vary in my experience but we reprocess (rather than rework) within a batch and that has never been a problem. We don't rework between batches though.
"Filth" is such a strong term. Rework can be underweights, which is hardly "filth". To me, "filth" means something which is unfit for human consumption and personally I would define it as such in my Halal procedure.
It might be worth asking for clarification from your Halal auditor or certification body because after all, they're the guys who will audit you!
Yes. But keep in mind treat it like allergens...cannot rework non-Halal ingredients or products into Halal products.
Hello,
When we were audited for Halal, we are requires to show on our lay out plan the direction of the reprocress/rework flow. It means rework is permitted.

I have only included intra-lot rework as was directed by other Halal manufafcturers.
