Cockroach Prevention in Food Processing Plant
Good Morning,
Can anyone offer advice on cockroach prevention or control in food processing plant. My organisation is located in Tropical North Queensland, processing mango, avocado and pineapples.
I am trying to find out the correct way to manage pests, in particular cockroaches.
In the meantime I will keep searching!

I'd highly recommend getting a proper pest control contractor in to deal with these issues. Shop around as the one I use charge a flat rate and throw all services in as part of the contract but some charge much lower base rates but charge extra for each job/bait/trap laid. If you really do want to police it all yourself then rubber bump stops at all entry points (stopping any passing between the bottoms of doors and the floor) and internal baits laid around these entry points that are laced with sticky pads would be a place to start.

Cockroaches are really difficult, because these have a very high reproduction cycle and it is easy to contaminate your site (often there is a continuous source of contamination, which needs to be sorted out).
Prevention in the first place and control in the second place are the best ways to sort them out. You need a strict application of all pest prevention management principles (and everybody needs to be involved, of course, having 1 responsible). See the link below for further information.

#1 thing for pest prevention is to get rid of the food. Make sure your production environment and surrounding warehouse is spotless and dry at the end of each day. The roaches will remain as long as there is:
Food.
Entry Points
Hiding places
Get a professional involved for getting them out now that they're there. but to keep them out the three principals above need to happen.
As others have mentioned preventive measures are the first task.
If you have an infestation get professional help. Cockroaches are difficult not only to the short reproduction cycle, but treatment usually involves multiple reproduction cycles to eradicate an infestation. Simply spray for them will not work...they will come back. Professionals can help. Of course, with food you will have to segregate and control the treatment areas and discard any food items at risk.

I was surprised by a case study in a restaurant that was pressure washing floors every day to stay clean. Unfortunately the water was being forced under the C*#! base making the wall a moist home for them. They had to tear out the wall to eradicate the nest and change how they cleaned. Going above and beyond can come back to get you sometimes.
I was also shocked to learn that many if not most infestations originated from customers and employees bringing packages and bags in. Consider controlling the personal articles and inspecting lockers.
