Quantity Checking - 6.3.1 of BRC
Hello All,
This is my first time auditing this section 6.3 of the BRC standard.
Clause 6.3.1 talks about "the frequency and methodology of quantity checking shall meet the requirements of appropriate legislation governing quantity verification, and records of checks shall be retained".
Could you all please help me in where to start auditing? What kind of documents should I be looking at? What if the line does not have a inline checkweigher? (manual weight checks are performed).
The things I thought of were;
1. product specification
2. records of weight checks
We do make products for customers in different countries, we do make products often without any specifications so whom do I talk to with regard to the weights?
Who should in the company ensure that we are meeting the legal weight requirements for the products that we sell to customers in other countries?
Any kind of information is helpful. Will look forward to your responses .
Hi RTP,
There are posts on this forum which offer generic “risk-based” plans for frequencies of auditing individual audit sections across the Standard.
I would anticipate that Company Policy requires manufactured output to be “legal”.
Yr Product/Process is unknown but Production without Specification seems anomalous.
Basic requirements Sec.6.3 involve –
(1) Legal requirements in relevant Country(s) where product sold.
(2) Checking procedures for weight/volume/quantity so as to meet (1)
Clearly (2) requires that Specifications exist.
Afaik a Checkweigher is not usually a mandatory piece of equipment.
.
Dear RTP,
Always start the audit with simple questions ;^)
Walk the packing/filling line and start with:
- the product that is produced now, which weight should it have?
- how do you know this? (can I see the document where this is documented?)
- how do you set the weight of this product/process?
following questions will come as you go. Examples:
- how do you check the weight of the products?
- How often?
- Where do you record this?
- What to do if it is not conform?
(- also check the weight on the label/packaging)
Go to quality department:
- is there a procedure/instruction? (then check if the information the operator gives you, complies to the information in this document)
- are there complaints related to weight? which corrective actions were taken?
- how do you know the legislation in destiny country? can you explain (check if the documented instruction complies).
Sales:
- are there customer requirements related to weight?
- are there customer requirements related to weight checks?
Hope this helps.
Charles and Madam A. D-tor - thank you both so much.
