If citric acid is added to a product in minuscule amounts is it necessary to declare in the ingredient listing?

As an ingredient or a processing aid?

If it's an ingredient it has to be declared

Well...let me ask you this.  Why are you adding citric acid?  What is the function of it in the product?  Is it..

  1. Reduced pH?
  2. Impart flavor?
  3. Other?

Reducing pH could be construed as a processing aid.  Imparting flavor would be an ingredient.

how about if it use as preservative..? if it is use as 2 % in the ingredient-A  and  ingredient A is use less then 2% in finish product..?

Hello,

When the citric acid has a function in the final product, it has to be declared.

  • Preservation is also a function

Kind regards,
