Preventing rancidity of crushed linseed
The senior management has asked to the quality team to introduce the milling of the linseed. Our issue is the posdible rancidity. Any experience on this? I've listened about the use of nitrogen in order to avoid this problem....any kindbof proposal? Literature about this? Thanks a lot for yor support
Hi Michela
The rancidity in linseed develop due to presence of unsaturated acids in it. It is therefore important that packaging of crushed linseed is such to avoid exposure of the crushed linseed to the open at atmosphere.
Packing the product under nitrogen is one option but senior management may not be willing to spend money in buying the machine for packing under nitrogen.
There are other options to extend the shelf life of the crushed linseed products. Some of these options are discussed in the link below.
