Migration test
Please help to decipher meaning of migration test.
I sent a tub out for testing and the migration is 9.2(+/- 3.8) mg/ article
is this good or bad?
In north America we do not specs for these and I really cant tell.
If you are talking overall migration for the EU, then my understanding is passing must be < 10 mg/dm2 with the appropriate simulant(s) for the appropriate time frame.
Hello Dr Vu,
Migration test is to determine the seeping/leaching of chemicals from the plastic packaging materials used in food packaging or which comes in contact with food products/water etc.(e.g. pet bottles used in Mineral water/Tin cans used in food industry contain epoxy coating as inner protective layers). As these leached chemicals are toxic
and may lead to adverse health effects if consumed above certain quantity .Hence their safety limits are established and regulated.
your migration test shows as 9.2(+/- 3.8) mg/ article does not mention the leached chemical name /quantity of food or water. The limits should as per the regulatory requirements of the countries where it is used in food or drink.
