Dear Majleci,

 

Main 3 modes of sterilisation are Steam, Chemical (Using ethylene oxide(ETO)) and irradiation. Chemical sterilisation and irradiation is banned in EU & also some companies in US. So, the best option is Steam Sterilisation.

 

One disadvantage of Steam sterilisation is VO loss & colour deterioration due to heat.

 Not  entirely sure this is true (unless the EU have made some changes without informing me!)

 

The European Commission has agreed a list of irradiated foods that can be freely traded across the European Union (EU). The list is not complete and at present it has only one food group: dried aromatic herbs, spices and vegetable seasonings. Until this list is complete, EU member states may continue to allow the irradiation of additional categories of foods. (FSA Feb 2012)

 

 

The only possible hurdle is that irradiated foods (that are to be imported into the EU) must be irradiated in an EU Approved facility (link below to said establishments in India)
