Hello,

I've been lurking around your forums for quite some time and decided that the time was right to become a member.

I currently work for a small (but rapidly growing) company that prides itself on growing vegetables and also processing many of them as short-shelf life fresh cut produce.

I work inside the processing facility but I have no real job title - I'm a mix of maintenance person, production and logistics supervisor, quality control officer, staff trainer, human resources officer and general lackey.

Our QA system (although recently expanded) still fails to offer the support that we - as a processing facility - need to ensure that we are up-to-date and using the best practices available and offering the best possible product to our customers. I'm sure they're very busy dealing with other pressing issues.  With no formal training or quality/processing schooling of my own, all of you here have provided me with invaluable insight on all sorts of topics - from best practices for x-ray machines and metal detectors to ways of ensuring that staff are following some of the harder to enforce protocol.

I hope that sometimes I will be able to offer opinions that may assist some of you, or at least contribute to the conversation, and as always I look forward to trawling through the forums for interesting and practicable information.

Jess

Dear Jessika,

Thank you for the pleasant and informative introduction.

And Welcome (at last) to the Forum ! :welcome:

If you can well understand a lot of the material on this forum without any formal scientific schooling i think you have advanced a long way in self-taught capabilities already

I also hope your salary is more real than yr job title.

Hope to see more posts in the future.

Hi & welcome!

What an exciting time to be part of buiilding a program and perfect time for you to start learning.  :)  The most rewarding thing about QA is starting from nothing and see where you are after a couple years (and walking through your process thinking "I'd eat that!" instead of "That's gross!").

We'll try to help ease your growing pains
