Our product is ice and we use colour raffia string to tie our ice pack and use it as a identification of product batch. we got 2 size of packaging 1 is 18kg and antoher 1 is 2,5kg (this packaging is heat sealing and we will put 5 pack of 2.5kg packaging into 1 plastic bag and tied with raffia string)which we normally find in convient store. we have problem of product identificaion for 2.5 kg packaging when reach customer site.. as customer will take out 5 pack of 2.5kg packaging and displayee at their chiller and no identication product can be traced..

So anyone of you enounter such situation before or mind to sharing you opinion on issues above, thanks in advance.

It sounds like the best solution may be to start ink-jetting a date code or lot number on the individual ice bags themselves.  Colored raffia, tends to fade, be removed (as you've discovered) and it not really sturdy enough to possibly last as long as the package.

ink-jetting may no be a solution to us as massive cost involved.. we have recorded d quantity of same batch prosuct delivered to customers site, it is acceptable ... we will withdrawal all d product fr customers site regardless d batch production, it is ok

I would think that with one withdrawal scenerio, pulling what actually needed to be recalled would be worth the investment.  Think of the damage your brand could suffer with the public perception that you can't trace your lots.

Your Mileage May Vary of course.

it is a must product recall have to reach end user? can we have a public recall when recall initiatted?

Do you have a final location in which it was sold?  A final distribution center with routes?  I firmly believe is is not good to have the media do your recall for you. You should be able to say it went to these stores..

I think you want to at least be able to say, "If you purchased XYZ with ABC date code at any of the Happy Consumer Convenience Stores after January 17 return it to the place you purchased it."

i only can trace the final stroe that we sent but didnt know who is the end user, is this good enough for our recall procedure??

If ink coding is costly, i can suggest to you to use different coloured plastic bags to identify the day of packing, or maybe the month? which ever is suitable for your work flow.

It is impossible to have 7 colour plastic bag in our store as space is limitted. Can we say if there is recall scenario, we will collected back all product in convenient store regardless the production batch,

Dear carine,

The usual preferred philosophy is to be proactive rather than reactive.

Unfortunately it typically involves expenditure as per previous posts.
