SQF 11.7.5.4 - Glass dial covers

The code states that mig thermometers and glass dial covers need to be checked at the start and end of each shift. We're finding that it might be hard to manage this at such high intervals. If the dial covers and thermometers are not over or near any open product is there any leniency with this section of the code? Any other members out there have any experience or best practice with this? Thanks!

The code only calls for the daily checks on "production equipment" dials and the MIG thermometers. To me, that suggests any dial not related directly to production just needs to be checked when you do the regular glass and hard plastic inventories (say, air compressor dials not related to a production line).

Could you can incorporate a check of those required items in your startup/shutdown paperwork?

11.7.5.4 - iv. Inspect glass instrument dial covers on processing equipment and MIG thermometers at the start and

finish of each shift to confirm they have not been damaged.

Just include this in your standard pre and post inspection procedure -- I haven't seen any sway on this one in practice.
