Labelling/packaging disposal

Dear All,
We have recently changed the recipe of one of our products and inline also changed the label as well. We have extra stock of old labels and packaging. I am very concern that old labels are not used at some points, although in locked area. I really want to dispose these labels off. Have any one got any procedure/suggestion how to do it and obviously also keep record of what is destroyed.
Please share your experiences and expertise.

An initial question/observation - is the product your own brand name or is it made for a retailer or similar customer. If the latter you should have negotiated the write off cost and agreed the method of disposal with them.
Assuming that it is your own company's brand, your objectives should be
1. To stop the packaging being accidently used on the wrong product and making the product illegal or unsafe.
2. To stop the packaging being used fraudulently by a third party.
The first step is to persuade your accounts/financial department that the stock is obsolete and needs to be disposed. Accountants get edgy about writing off stocks and may argue that the recipe may not be successful and you will revert to the original and will therefore need the packaging.
Once you have overcome this you have two options - DIY or get a specialist to dispose of it.
To do it yourself you need the facilities and equipment to destroy it, ie render it unusable. Examples are incinerators or shredders. Putting it in a skip (dumpster?) will not be OK as you will have no control over where it goes or what happens to it. If you can do it yourself, recording it is fairly easy, you just need descriptions, quantities, methods, dates and signatures.
If you use a contractor,make sure that they are specialists in secure disposal. -
Obtain a method statement for how they will dispose of the packaging/lablels. (Landfill is not secure!)
Take references
Agree how they will provide evidence of destruction and disposal - how, when, how much
