Worm found in Product - How to Verify Corrective Action?
need some help on verification for corrective action
non conformance was found by customer and the complaints is worm inside our product
so what i did was increasing my insectkiller , cleaning schedule and sanitation
to close the corrective action report i need to verified the effectiveness of the implementation but having problem how to do the verification
thx
aie,
Please give actual objective evidence after implementing the corrective action.
Has it reduced? Has the problem happened again Yes/No?
If Yes....Record it & Fix it by doing root cause analysis, CA/PA again.
If No...Record it. Your corrective action is effective.
I am assuming by your corrective action that the worm isn't related to a raw material sent to you by a supplier as you haven't stated what your product is? If this is a possibility maybe you should look at supplier controls to keep the raw materials worm free, verification would then be by supplier audit or checking what they send you.
If your action is to increase pest control and sanitsation have you had any record of any infestation? In this case corrective action would be to get rid of the source of the worms and verification would be that it has gone.
If you can't find the source of the worm then maybe you could identify the species, I am not a worm expert but maybe this would help pin down the source?
If none of this works I think all you can do is monitor complaints for a further occurance and assume that if there are no more whatever you have done has worked!

Hi,
Can you please elaborate on the product and area of application of corrective action.
This would help in finding the solution.
In general it is the monitoring of an adequately big sample of the product to say yes now there are no more worms in the product.
Thanks

ty for reply
we making biscuit , corn snack and egg rolls
im assure that the worm is not coming from raw materials. because all raw materilas mixed will be baked and roasted at above 120 degree celcius.
and for the evidence of the worm is only a picture that is send by our customer ... so it is difficult to identify what species it is..
and because of it i assuming that flies can cause this in my root cause ... that is why i increase pest control ....
this is our first case regarding pest ... so there is no record of any infestation.
if im gonna verified it base on pest (flies) .. so the production area must free from flies right. insectkiller will help on to trap all the flies in the production area.
what i want to know is can i verified by the captured flies caught by the insectkiller since our insectkiller surely caught flies in the production area.
monitoring customer complaints occurance .... i like this one :)
what is the period suitable for the occurance ... can i make it for 3 months for no customer complaint related to pest
thank u .... its really help me a lot
Working out a suitable period is a difficult one I think, I would say it depends on the shelf-life of your product and how long it takes for people to get complaints in. I know we get some reported weeks after the product end of life (although I think they would be pretty quick in complaining with a worm!).
However, 3 months sounds like a pretty average time span to close it as a verification with monitoring continuing after that.
Hope it goes away!
If not shelf-life related issue, perhaps it is a result of, for example, not keeping the appropriate temperature chain.
