TBH I just got lucky and answered an ad in paper. I'm working for a small production plant of a big company and they had NO idea what they needed but customers had become demanding.
I would suggest the way to go is to write to smaller firms who, like my place are currently paying a consultant to meet their technical requirements. a part-time technical manager will always work out...
